It’s last orders for Wetherspoon and social media

JD Wetherspoon is to call time on ALL of its social media accounts... yes that’s right all of them!

The booze deal happy pub chain will close every account, that’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other accounts associated with all 900 of its pubs as well as its head office. The move is headed by chairman Tim Martin. Martin said: “We are going against conventional wisdom that these platforms are a vital component of a successful business. I don’t believe that closing these accounts will affect our business whatsoever and this is the overwhelming view of our pub managers. “It’s becoming increasingly obvious that people spend too much time on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and struggle to control the compulsion.” Wetherspoon did have a following of some 44,000 on Twitter and over 100,000 on Facebook... this all comes after deleting their 700,000 strong email list last year.
