Search Engine Optimisation is the process of increasing your websites visibility across a number of chosen keywords for your business across the most commonly used search engines. For example if you sell flowers or plants and you think the keywords interior or exterior plants are what people will type in a search engine…wrong it’s likely that people more frequently type in indoor or outdoor plants and getting this wrong can have huge impacts on where your website shows up on a search engine.

But why does this matter you ask? Well the more often your website shows up at the top of the search engine the more traffic you will get and the more sales.

6 new SEO trends for 2016

If you’re still using the same SEO tactics and strategies from 2012, it’s time to revamp your organic search strategy

  1. Keyword Research – There has been a shift away from one-tone relationship between keywords and high rankings. When doing keyword research, focus on finding relevant topics and themes to structure your content.

  2. On-Page SEO – Have longer word counts 1,200 + words, relevant terms that support and prove relevance to the content’s main topic, relevant internal links. H1 tags and meta-descriptions is more critical than before.

  3. Site wide SEO – High ranking keywords and on-page SEO is not enough. Your site needs to be mobile friendly and be fast loading. Using menus, bullet lists and useful links.

  4. Mobile SEO – Content for mobile devices is different. This means smaller file sizes, mobile friendly format, keywords in the content and shorter word counts (850 – 900 words)

  5. Link building – Build your brand not just your links. You will earn more links through publishing high quality content.

  6. Content Marketing – The key to high rankings in 2016 is publishing content that your users need. It must provide value.
