Twitter Tests with Icons

Ever got lost in a thread on Twitter? Who mentioned who and who actually posted this? Following the failure of the “Original Tweeter” and “Author”, Twitter is now testing icons designed to make conversation easier on the platform. As you can see from the tweet above, if the original tweet author engages in the thread, their tweet will be labeled with a microphone. People directly mentioned in the original tweet will be marked with a @ icon and, last but not least, if a person

Say more with a retweet

From this week (so long as you have updated to the latest app), Twitter users can add images, videos, and GIFs to their quoted tweets. (these are like retweets but under your own handle) Twitter is rolling out the new feature across Android, iOS, and Twitter’s mobile website; it’s not on desktop quite yet, however. Adding media to a retweet works just like you’d expect: tap the “retweet with comment” option and then choose the image or GIF icon in the toolbar. As easy as that

Pay less attention to your competition

Having met a dozen new businesses in December and more already this month I still get the same point given to me by new businesses or businesses struggling, on three separate occasions I have been told "my competitors are doing so well" The only reason why these businesses think this is because of social media, their direct competition have stated they are fully booked or working with a massive client or they have experience a record month or week whatever. My advice is to al

AR y Maes app a big success

I love new apps, but love them even more when they are amde in Wales and set in Wales!! Coming to the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru this week? You need the app to help you make the most of your visit. Think Pokemon Go but in Wales and in Welsh if you want! This free bilingual 'AR y Maes' app uses augmented reality to offer a new and innovative way to explore Cardiff Bay during #Steddfod2018 The app - AR y Maes - is the fruit of the partnership between BBC Cymru Wales, S4C and

Entrepreneur of the year 2018

It has been a busy year so far in 2018, in front of the computer and on stage.. This week I was lucky enough to come away with the Entrepreneur of the year award at the Bierkeller Awards in Cardiff. Up for two awards and up against some great companies it was a surprise to scoop the award and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me over the last two years. A massive thank you to my clients and a huge thank you to other business owners who have always given me time

Where do you draw the line

When it comes to marketing on social media, we can often think of an idea, take a photo, create a graphic and it's ready in under half an hour to be posted... sometimes this isn't enough to really think about your campaign or the message and get it wrong. A bit like Ryan Air this month.. their tweet below which was then pulled 48hrs later didn't go down well on social media and rightly so. There is guerrilla marketing and then there's having no class, this may have been a qui

How do you market a gym?

Last week I met with Dan from UFIT in Cardiff, Dan is a flexible dieting coach and vlogger who has created some great content for his own social media channels and website as well as for Ufit. I spoke to Dan about the marketing side of things at Ufit, managing it in-house and what it is that works for them at the biggest gym in Cardiff to get new faces through the doors. There are quite a few gyms in Cardiff, what’s your biggest marketing channel that you use here at UFIT? So

Time to master networking

As a freelancer and small business owner networking is key to growth and meeting new businesses and new clients, it is also difficult to find the time to fit in networking with all the creative and consulting work that one person can do in one day or one week. Managing time is the key to running a successful sole trader business, but networking and being better at networking is another key strength to have to maintain a successful business. I have never been one of these peop

Do you know your competition?

I always get asked who is my competition? With the creative and marketing industry saturated with new businesses offering very similar services it's easy to look at companies and individuals like this as my main competition. But I'm thinking differently on this one, as much as my direct competition is the various marketing, social media, design and web companies in Cardiff and Aberystwyth I also have a much bigger competitor.. and that's businesses, small and medium size ones

So Twitter your new thing?

After the algorithm change of Facebook in January and then the data scandal that followed in March, it seems like businesses are falling out of love with the king of social media and Zuckerberg. Instagram hasn't had it easy recently either, they have also changed their algorithm and had a number of people jumping ship to Vero.. Ve what??? Blog here about it Working with small and medium size businesses on a daily basis I always get asked to choose a fav platform and I have be

Why I'm nutsabout Twitter

It's great to work with all various size businesses to promote their products or services, in Aberystwyth, Cardiff, Swansea and further. Using their website, marketing material, video marketing and of course a sprinkle of social media. Before the end of 2017, Facebook was the go to place for businesses on set up, they would have a business name, a logo, a website (maybe) and of course a Facebook page! We have always advocated Twitter as a profile to set up from the get go as

Twitter opens up 280 characters to all 🙈

Late last night twitter updated everyones settings to allow 280 characters, some of you will love it and will cram every tweet with 270 plus characters. We have had the settings turned on a few weeks now and are loving the new space to add an extra few emojis and a link at the end of every other tweet. What about your competition?

It's Friday morning, and before I head off to a meeting I take a look at my social media analytics, I try and do this detailed look every week but haven't seen the stats in detail for over 10 days now.... It's good news, all the stats are green, we're up on interaction and engagement and our video views are up too, that and a couple of extra likes and followers. One thing I do look at when I'm on the Red Squirrel Marketing Facebook business page analytics is 'Pages to Watch',

Top 10 Reasons for Using Social Media

GlobalWebIndex’s latest social media usage report shows that more than 40% of people use social media platforms to keep in touch with friends, making this the top reason for social media use globally. Among 16 to 24 year-olds, the key reason for using social media is not to keep in touch, but rather to fill spare time (too much spare time obviously) while among 25 to 34 year-olds, staying in touch with friends proves more important. (if you plan or run events, Facebook is the

Twitter is dying!

I think I've heard this at least 10 times over the last week while having social media meetings with businesses in Aberystwyth and Cardiff, but is it dying? Yes it's loosing users day by day but should you jump ship? Definitely not, if you think it's already dead then you're just not using it correctly. Twitter is one of, it not the most social of social networks, you can interact with anyone and everyone. Now that is the issue with most accounts, there isn't any interaction.

The Importance of Sharing your Content Multiple Times on Twitter

It goes without saying, Twitter is a great way to reach a wide range of people with quick, sharp and easily digestible content. However, the vast Twittersphere is often an easy place to lose content – with many posts quickly disappearing into oblivion once tweeted. Many businesses and individuals make the mistake of trying to create a huge amount of content to give them something to shout about on Twitter. Of course, creating shareable content is important. But more often tha

Clients in Cardiff and Aberystwyth are beginning to see that telling a story and doing it through social media is opening new doors for them. 2017 is going to see more and more businesses launch new products and campaigns on social media first, just like John Lewis and their Christmas ad last year.
